Site Council
Under the guidelines of California Assembly Bill 65, a School Site Council was established at Laurel School. The purpose of A.B. 65 is to develop a partnership between administrators, teachers and parents which focuses upon improving the educational opportunities for students. Each year, the Site Council is responsible for writing a Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA), submitting it to both the Menlo Park School Board and the State for approval, and for the implementation and subsequent evaluation of the plan. The Site Council, along with other participants, creates and monitors the Laurel School Plan.
The School Site Council is composed of parents, teachers, another school representative and the principal. Members serve two-year terms. Openings for positions on the Council are announced near the end of the school year and all interested parents are encouraged to apply. Announcements are made through the Laurel Newsletter. If interest exceeds availability, an election will be conducted among the full parent population.
